Zippy Edibles has selected the ZSK 54 Mv PLUS twin screw extruder with a cooling die and the K-Tron K2-ML-D5-T35 feeder from Coperion to manufacture high moisture meat analogues (HMMA). This extrusion system produces various types of meat analogues that supporting the needs of the Indian market.

Zippy Edibles produces various plant-based dishes such as Soya Chaap, a North Indian dish known for its meat-like texture, on the Coperion system. The food extruder is reliable, flexible, and economical; the ZSK 54 Mv PLUS twin screw extruder has a torque of 11.3Nm/cm3 and screw speed up to 1500 min-1, allowing Zippy Edibles to produce up to 500kg per hour of HMMA.

With a diameter ratio Do/Di of 1.8 for its screw flights, the system ensures a large free screw volume that improves the feed intake of plant-based ingredients that flow poorly. Furthermore, the modular process section of the extruder can be adapted to changing requirements, giving Zippy the possibility to expand their range of protein products. Moreover, the versatility of the Coperion extruder provides extensive control over various parameters to create different types of extrudates which can be formed, coated and marinated to target the individual market needs.

Comprehensive trials at the Coperion Test Lab in Stuttgart, Germany, as well as support prior to the purchase of the machine and after-sales support helped Zippy to use the machine to its full capabilities. In addition, local on-site support by Coperion India facilitates swift response to possible issues.

Sarthak Singhal, director of business development at Zippy Edibles, added: “We are very proud to announce the successful commissioning of the state-of-the-art Coperion extrusion system, marking a significant advancement in the production of high moisture meat analogues. This collaboration supports us in our vision to innovate and provide cost-effective, high-quality meat alternatives. We invite you to experience the future of food processing. Together, we are setting new standards in the Indian industry, delivering innovative solutions that cater to the evolving tastes and preferences of consumers.”
