In order to make packaging line operations better, faster and more efficient, key players in the Industry 4.0 movement have to commit to innovation by creating Smart Factories where computerized systems can be used to design, simulate, monitor and safeguard physical processes.
In this new industrial revolution, Gebo Cermex is launching the Agility 4.0™ program with a palette of already 4 new 4.0 tools which are innovative, intuitive and fully integrated with the company’s existing industrial and design processes: 3D Scan, the most accurate field survey of an existing environment to perfectly secure supply fits; Virtual Reality Simulation to visualise new installations with immersive 360° models; Energy Simulation to assess or forecast consumption and emissions; and finally, the company’s live remote video technical support service, taking assistance up to the Factory of the Future level with the exclusive addition of Augmented Reality technology.
The indispensable value of simulation
As the packaging industry continues to evolve and accelerate, there is currently a strong need in industry for firms to commit to creating value for clients. With this in mind, Gebo Cermex is aiming to provide 360° solutions which boost productivity while driving down operational expenditure (OPEX) and total cost of ownership.
The Factory of the Future is the next chapter in Gebo Cermex’s history of innovation, and the company now rolls out a portfolio of 4.0 solutions.
Pinpoint accuracy in a fraction of the time
3D Scan is a new service from Gebo Cermex, using the latest 3D scanning equipment to produce a digital model of the production environment. The scanner takes precise digital measurements of the client’s facilities, generating a cloud of points which are then converted into a three-dimensional drawing, and can also be enriched with photographs. The whole process takes a fraction of the time usually required to produce a schematic diagram based on manual measurements, and all with an unprecedented accuracy of measurement. Precise and exhaustive 3D models are essential when it comes to designing, modifying and optimising production environments, for example to check the feasibility of an installation when a machine is replaced, while anticipating “collisions” with the existing environment.
Fine-tuning for better decision-making
In engineering phases or integration projects, the Gebo Cermex Virtual Reality simulator takes 3D modelling capacities to the next level, offering a 360° immersion producing lifelike simulations of potential production set-ups and providing all of the information required to acquire proof of principle and assist clients in their GO or NO GO decision-making. This new capability allows industrial firms to test and fine-tune critical options during the pre-project design phase: ensuring that all areas of the factory are accessible for cleaning and maintenance, securing the view from the operator’s control booth, providing advance training for operational staff months ahead of installation and start-up, and more.
Avoid useless energy consumption with precise simulation
The company’s new energy consumption simulation tool can be used both to audit existing installations and to design new ones. Precise simulation allows customers to test a large number of possible configurations, validate design variants, and optimize energy-saving proposals, thereby optimizing operational expenditure and efficiency. It is also an important source of key findings during the design phase. With an ever-stronger focus on sustainability and energy consumption, which have now become two key buying factors, customers tend to take a very close look at energy reduction and carbon footprint when they make purchasing decisions. Used in conjunction with Gebo Cermex’s Eco Audit service, the simulator can help to significantly improve the environmental performance of industrial companies’ set-up.
Solving issues with the help of augmented reality
Lastly, the company’s Live Remote Video Assistance service represents a major component of 4.0 assistance.
This Remote Video Assistance naturally offers a user-friendly interface as well as reducing MTTR (Mean Time To Repair) thanks to quicker production restarts. These advantages come with a high level of data security, as they are secured with Standard Operating Procedure and security policies.
Complementary innovations for the Factory of the Future
With these innovations, Gebo Cermex is a key player in the Factory of the Future, offering comprehensive, 360° solutions which boost productivity while driving down OPEX and total cost of ownership. These new tools and services join the company’s recently-launched EIT AQ-Clock and EIT Audio modules. Further Factory of the Future services and solutions are expected from Gebo Cermex in 2016.
