Growthwell Foods, a Singapore-based Asian plant-based nutrition company, has announced the appointment of Manuel A. Bossi as group CEO effective immediately succeeding Justin Chou, who will remain on the Board. Bossi, who is currently the Deputy CEO, joined Growthwell Foods in October 2021.
Prior to joining Growthwell Foods, Bossi was managing director of AEMEA at The Hershey Company, where he oversaw commercial operations for 25+ countries across three regions. Prior to that he had a successful track record with several commercial roles at Ferrero, Mondelez and Nestle across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
On his appointment as CEO, Bossi said: “I am honoured to be appointed group CEO of Growthwell Foods and spearhead its next phase of growth in sustainable plant-based food and nutrition innovation. We are on a mission to nourish one billion people with plant-based food, and I believe we already have the best in-class offerings in the market to make that happen, particularly seafood offerings designed for Asian palates.”
“I am heartened to see Growthwell Foods’ successful transition over the past two years from a family-managed food factory with nearly three decades of plant-based food knowhow into a leading Asian food-tech start-up led by a strong team of experienced professionals,” said Justin Chou, executive director and board member.
The appointment comes as Growthwell Foods is preparing to accelerate its growth across Asia-Pacific by entering new markets in 2022.
“Geographical expansion is a key strategic pillar of our growth, and we have our eyes set on various markets in Asia and Europe. We are also preparing to drive growth via entry into adjacent plant-based categories with our patented high protein chickpea technology,” said Bossi.
In 2022, Growthwell Foods also acquired a majority stake of ChickP following an investment into the disruptive alternative ingredient Israeli start-up, founded by Prof Ram Reifen. It is the first company in the world to patent and launch the 90% chickpea isolate, an ingredient that is known for being particularly nutritious, as well as versatile and neutral in taste.
“Manuel is a seasoned business leader with a rich breadth of commercial and operational experience across cultures and geographies with a strong track record of driving sustainable growth across categories and markets,” said Shivendu Nadkarni, board director of Growthwell Foods. “We are confident that Manuel will lead the company and team into the next stage of growth and successfully expand our market and category footprint.”
