For a concept that only recently entered the mainstream in some parts of the world, nutricosmetics are on their way to becoming one of the beauty industry’s hottest products. The global nutricosmetics market was already valued at almost US$7bn in 2021, but over the next seven years the segment is predicted to post an impressive 8.01% CAGR, indicating a rapid rise in consumer interest. According to some market forecasts, the Asia Pacific region alone was responsible for $3.6bn of the global nutricosmetics market in the same year, demonstrating just how dominant the trend was and continues to be across the region.

This meteoric growth is the result of the post-pandemic move away from isolated beauty goals towards a more holistic approach to self-care from the “inside-out”. In 2021, 67% of global consumers said they recognised a link between healthy skin and general wellbeing, up from just 54% who made the same connection in 2018. This “whole body health” mindset is equally relevant when it comes to haircare, with half of all consumers surveyed by Innova Market Insights stating they consume — or would consume — a dietary supplement for haircare. This article thus explores the blossoming potential of nutricosmetics designed to support haircare: the needs they address, the science behind their effects and the secret ingredient brands can harness to deliver hair-raising results.
