Singapore, 12 July 2016: De Nora, a global leader in sustainable technologies, has launched Giselle®, the world’s first compact onsite sanitising system which could have far-reaching benefits in raising food safety standards in Asia.
Unveiled at this year’s Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) by the company’s newest business unit, De Nora NEXT, the EPA-approved mobile system is small and easy enough for use in individual food venues, processors, and outlets.
Giselle® offers a complete, simple, reliable and cost-effective sanitising system for individual operators for the first time, replacing other cleaning practices which are not effective against all viruses, bacteria, fungi and spores. It also does not leave any harmful residue on food.
The system dispenses a sanitising sodium hypochlorite solution named Soleva™. The environmentally-friendly solution is made from salt and tap water which are transformed by an electrochemical reaction, and dispensed directly from a specially-designed spray bottle.
De Nora Global Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer, Mr Luca Buonerba said that with a large number of people in Southeast Asia affected by and dying from foodborne illnesses, De Nora aims to provide a solution for sanitisation that can improve the quality and safety of food.
“Recent statistics from the World Health Organization show that almost one in 10 people fall ill from eating contaminated food with 420,000 dying from foodborne diseases every year.
“Improving food safety requires more effective sanitisation of the different surfaces, tools and equipment that come in contact with the food. De Nora’s sodium hypochlorite Soleva™ solution kills all bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores that can migrate onto food products, causing illnesses. The solution can also be used to sanitise foods that have previously come in contact with soil, and reduce reliance on pesticides,” said Mr Buonerba.
Mr Buonerba added that with Asia’s food industry projected to achieve a year-on-year growth of 11 per cent this year, the importance of food safety and sanitisations will be further amplified.
“The growth of personal technology has made it possible for consumers to have almost everything they need at their fingertips. Tapping on this growth, we have harnessed our expertise and leadership in the electrochemical cell technology space into the extremely compact and small-sized Giselle® unit.
“This gives it maximum flexibility of use and increases the possibility of it being moved on a cart and working without direct connection to a water supply.
“With Giselle®, the transport, handling and storage of chemicals are also limited to small cartridges of sodium chloride. The production of plastic and waste is also dramatically reduced, making it better and safer for the environment,” said Mr Buonerba.
