Cortec’s nitrite-free VpCI paper makes corrosion protection of auto parts “safe and easy”

It is not uncommon for auto mechanics to receive replacement parts wrapped in Cortec VCI/VpCI paper. This is because Cortec’s VCI/VpCI paper acts like an insurance policy to keep auto components in as-new condition during shipment through uncontrolled environments that could incite corrosion. Although Cortec has many specialty VCI/VpCI papers, a good place to start for effective multi-metal corrosion protection is Cortec’s all-purpose VCI/VpCI paper: CorShield VpCI-146. CorShield VpCI-146 emits Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors (VCIs/VpCIs) that form a protective molecular layer on metal surfaces within the package. The VCI/VpCI molecules provide protection against aggressive conditions including humidity, SO2, H2S, and dissimilar metals. In addition, CorShield VpCI-146 now offers double-sided protection (it does not matter which side is facing the metal) and conforms readily to the shape of the metal part for easier wrapping.

CorShield VpCI-146 can be used for shipping auto parts. It eliminates the need to apply and remove greasy rust preventatives, thereby cutting out significant labour and clean-up or disposal issues. Suppliers can quickly wrap the parts, drop them into a package, and send them off to the user with an added layer of corrosion protection. Another key benefit is that CorShield VpCI-146 is non-hazardous to use. It does not contain nitrites, phosphates, or silicates, according to the company, and is made from 100% recycled content paper and can simply be thrown into the recycling bin after use.

CorShield VpCI-146 paper can also be combined with other packaging materials to design a comprehensive VCI/VpCI packaging solution for large projects. Examples include:

  • Placing CorShield VpCI-146 paper between stacked brake components before stretch wrapping (a cost-efficient alternative to an oily rust preventative that had failed to prevent rust spots)
  • Interleaving semi-assembled motorcycle parts with CorShield VpCI-146 paper in conjunction with a VpCI-126 box liner and VpCI-132 foam emitters for corrosion-free global shipment
  • Wrapping CorShield VpCI-146 around truck axel spindles while using VpCI-126 for axel ring faces and shrouds to transport them from India to New York

There are many cases in which automakers and suppliers stand to benefit from the additional layer of protection and peace of mind provided by CorShield VpCI-146. With its non-hazardous nature, recyclability, and high QC standards for every batch, Cortec is confident that CorShield VpCI-146 is the VCI-VpCI paper on the market for protecting auto parts from corrosion.
